You are invited to participate in a public community consultation regarding Alternative Education at Akram Jomaa and the Omar Bin Al-Khattab campuses. We are seeking parent feedback as critical changes may be occurring to your child’s education in the near future.

Alternative Education Programs, such as what we offer at the Akram Jomaa Campus and the Omar Bin Al-Khattab Campus, are required to align with Alberta’s Education Act. Within this legislation, it states that provincial funding must follow the requirements outlined in the provincial curriculum of studies.

According to the Education Act, a fee may be charged to support an alternative program these fees are to be used for the alternative part of the program. Palliser School Division remains responsible for supporting the rest of a student's education.

Our current partnership agreement with the Muslim Community Foundation of Calgary has now expired and we are working towards renewing this relationship.

As families you can help, please review the information available online and share your thoughts today. By working together, we are confident that we will be able to reach a resolution.

We are a proud member of the Calgary Islamic School community and are pleased to partner with societies such as the Muslim Community Foundation of Calgary to provide alternative educational programming. Our many student successes demonstrate the value that these programs have provided in the past and will continue to provide in the future.

While we certainly hope to continue our partnership, it is important that our families are aware that Palliser School Division will be required to conclude our positive working relationship with the Muslim Community Foundation of Calgary and discontinue providing your child’s Alternative Education program at the end of the 2022-23 school year if an agreement cannot be obtained.

Palliser School Division is dedicated to supporting you and your child in their education. Our team will continue to review and respond to all feedback submitted below. Meaningful updates will be shared with you by email as they become available.

If you have any questions regarding this consultation and prefer to provide your feedback by email, please contact engagement@pallisersd.ab.ca.
